Islamic Republic of Iran Flag (1979-Current) (2 Variations)

The Islamic Republic of Iran flag has undergone two major variations since 1979. Before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iranian flag featured the Lion and Sun emblem, and the Safavid Lion and Sun Flag shows the earlier form behind that symbol. In 1980, the design changed to include the red national emblem on the white band, along with the Takbir ("Allahu Akbar") repeated 22 times in Kufic script along the edges of the green and red bands. The similarity between the Kufic script and "USA" led to later modifications, resulting in the final version used today.
